Remembrance on Gable

Charlie joined Richard on a trip up Great Gable for the remembrance event at 11 am on Sunday. Set off from the ODG at about 8.30 and made it to the summit just in time for the speech and silence. Perfect timing. Very well attended and a pleasant atmosphere. Would guess there were over 1000 people on the summit. An impressive sight.
Mixed weather meant waterproofs were needed for some of the day but the mist lifted occasionally to allow for some lovely lakeland views. Bagged a 'synge' on the return!
Meanwhile Tim and John rode some of the South lakeland roads, fortunately in somewhat drier conditions.
Back at no 7 it was premature birthday present opening ahead of Clara's 1st birthday on Monday.

A fine way to round off a lovely weekend. My favourite whisky and planning a route for ennerdale.

Bikes for all

We collected Tim's new bike from Westbrooks in Stokesley on Friday night.

Took it out for a debut spin round the streets of Richmond on Saturday morning, giving us both chance to try out our newly purchased road cleats and shoes.

Headed to Kendal via the scenic dales route for late morning. Grizedale provided us all with an opportunity to do some biking in the rain. The north face route for Charlie and John and the green trail for Tim (on Naomi's vintage Saracen) and Naomi. Clara seemed to enjoy her trip in the bike trailer! Fortunately there were no bike issues and the duckboards were conquered without injury - hurrah!

October in Wales

After an intense weekend of lounge DIY, we headed to Wales to hook up with Thomas Mouse at the Wood cottage.

Biking, running, ambling, frequenting of some of Wales' best coffee shops and an amount of relaxing all contributed towards a lovely half term break.

Staveley to Kendal to Richmond

Headed across Friday evening for tea at no. 7 in Kendal before Naomi, John and Clara headed down south for the weekend and we were left in
Stripes' capable paws!

Saturday - Visit to Wheelbase to size up and purchase bike for Charlie. Not a short process but worth it. Charlie enjoyed début ride along the South Lakeland roads back to Kendal. Evening run with Stripes on Scout Scar before tea.

Sunday - Charlie set off at 06:30 to cycle back to Richmond. Tim followed in the camper a couple of hours later. Met up 6 miles from home when Charlie was in need of some sustenance, which was kindly provided! Lunch with the Plaices at the Fox Hall Inn. Mmm...

Let's hope the dry weather continues...

Any suggestions as to what to do with this beaut... Thanks Nomie!

Wonder of weekends

A great weekend, starting with boozes, food and a fab time with Benny and Tiddles!

Quick bez west on Saturday morning to park at the top of the Walna Scar road at 12. Through lead of Giant's Crawl on Dow Crag, a zap over the Old Man of Coniston and headed to the Joneses for a late tea and catch up!

Giant's Crawl is the rightwards diagonal line from the foot of Great Gully

Neighbourhood watch on Dow Crag

Clara provided lots of entertainment as she practised her best standing and shuffling!

Relay run along the river in Kendal to fit everybody's needs in, including Clara's nap time!

As with every trip to Wheelbase we received superb attention and advice from Jaco. Charlie's got a bike on hold! And within 24 hours a decision will be made...

Trek Madone 4.9 (2013) model...any comments?

Tim started his research for a road bike and was 'sized up' by Jaco's expert eye!

Retail and climbing therapy - Northumberland

Friday
Flier from work = in John Lewis, Newcastle for 17:00 to ogle (but not purchase!) home furnishings!

Lovely dinner at Wagamama's.
Wild camp in the van near Once Brewed.

Heavy rain overnight.

Saturday
Contemplated and committed to
Plan A - climb at Crag Lough.

Wall and Crack (Diff)

Spuggie's Gully (VDiff**)

Jezebel (Diff***)

Rock was great. Dried off enough, despite being north facing. Drying rock shoes enough to make them stick was a challenge though!

The climbing there is very steep but Charlie loved her 3 leads and was cool, calm and collected throughout, despite being greeted by 2 tiny frogs on a hand hold/gear placement on Jezebel!

Returned to Richmond Saturday evening, via IKEA for further perusal!

Sunday
Lovely run before breakfast to suss some good blackberry spots for afternoon foraging!

Stove

Kevin Coates and 2 other guys did a grand job of fitting our Morsø Badger stove in a day.

Ready to get started - the blue gas fire surround has gone!

Brings a whole new meaning to hole in the wall!

Progressing nicely

Final installation

Fire in the hole!

Logs arrived. Team effort to get them off the drive.
Cups = fetcher and carrier.
Chuck B = stacker.
Success.
